The château dates back to the 15th century but its current facade owes much to the renovations carried out in the 19th century. Its ornate gated entrance leading to a beautiful, typically French styled garden, with a terrace overlooking the valley below.
Magnificently carved stone fireplaces, unusual ceilings and a chapel with protected 'frescos', were commissioned by Jean de Moussy, forming part of the “Trilogie de la Gartempe”, dating from the end of the 15th century.
This beautiful Château combine perfectly, the characterful atmosphere with current day amenities - a fully fitted kitchen with feature fireplace, panelled dining room again with feature stone fireplace, leading to the chapel with the famous (listed) frescos. The salon, again has a magnificent feature fireplace and the entrance has carved stone vaulted ceilings and magnificent stained glass windows. There are a total of 13 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms, in total over 900 m2 of accommodation.
The current guardian has worked at the Château for the last 2 owners, continuing to do a first class job of maintaining the property to the highest standard.
The Château is set in 32 hectares of pasture and woodlands and enjoys over 1km of private river frontage. There is a Caretaker's cottage, stables and kennels, a swimming pool, tennis court as well as a riverside lodge.
It is within easy reach of St Savin with it's UNESCO World Heritage Abbey as well as bars, restaurants, shops and amenities, Montmorillon, Poitiers (TGV, airport and A10 Paris/Bordeaux autoroute) and Futuroscope.
