Detailed description

Originally built in the mid-15th century by Guy de Chastaigner, baron of Lindois (part of an old noble family and chamber master to both Louis XI and Charles VIII).

Restored to a very high standard, this property has been thoroughly renovated whilst retaining original features including exposed beams, thick stone walls, hand cut oak floorboards & lovely stone fireplaces. Recent additions include oil fired central heating, double glazing and wall & roof insulation throughout.

Large metal gates open on to a tree-lined gravel driveway leads through the garden to the property. Large oak double doors form the main entrance and lead to the ground floor of the house and a tiled entrance HALLWAY (15m²) with old stone sink feature and arched window.

At one end is a large, open KITCHEN/ DINING ROOM (51 m²) that boasts modern integrated units (ovens, induction hob, dishwasher and butler sink), cosy seating area, tiled floor and large stone fireplace housing a Godin wood-fired range cooker. Glazed double doors lead out to a stone terrace, the swimming pool and garden beyond. There is also access to a large LIVING ROOM (46m²), with stone fireplace, wood burner and large dual aspect windows.

The rest of the ground floor comprises a LAUNDRY ROOM (18m²) with terracotta tiled floor, a SHOWER ROOM (4m²) with walk in shower, washbasin, toilet and heated towel rail and BOILER ROOM with work tops, plumbing for washing machines and hot water tank.

From the HALLWAY an old wooden staircase leads to the first floor and a LANDING (25 m²) with oak floor giving access to two BEDROOMS, a BATHROOM and corridor to the remaining BEDROOMS.

Spacious BEDROOM 1 (31 m²) has exposed beams and a large floor to ceiling window with views over one of the gardens and the village beyond. The family BATHROOM (20 m²) is spacious with a bath, separate shower, washbasin, vanity unit and toilet. On the other side of the LANDING is BEDROOM 2 (24 m²) with en suite SHOWER ROOM (4 m²) with shower, tiled floor, wash basin and toilet.

The remaining three BEDROOMS are off a wide, bright corridor. BEDROOM 3 (19 m²) is entered via a large oak door and has views over the courtyard. BEDROOM 4 (19 m²) has garden views and BEDROOM 5 (17 m²) has an en suite SHOWER ROOM (3 m²) with shower, wash basin, vanity unit, heated towel rail and toilet.

The newly renovated gite has updated plumbing and electrics as well as gas fired central heating. Set over two levels, it comprises an ENTRANCE HALL (18 m²) with chestnut floor, fully equipped tiled KITCHEN/DINER (36 m²) with stone fireplace, wood burner and pantry, LOUNGE (15 m²) with chestnut floor and DINING ROOM (16 m²) with corner fireplace and built-in cupboard.

A wooden staircase leads to the first floor and a landing giving access to three BEDROOMS and a family BATHROOM. Spacious BEDROOM 1 (20 m²) enjoys views over the front and rear of the property, has an en suite SHOWER ROOM (5 m²) with shower, tiled floor, washbasin and toilet. BEDROOMS 2 & 3 (10 m² & 15 m²) are also bright and enjoy lovely views from the large windows.

The Gite has its own enclosed gardens and entrance separate from that of the main house.

Outbuildings include:
- A GARAGE/ WOOD STORE with concrete floor that houses a new central heating boiler and 2000 litre oil tank.
- An old stone built Mairie (30 m²) that has been restored as a GAMES ROOM with lovely wooden floor and central heating.
- A large stone BARN with concrete floor.
- Converted CELLAR (46m²) under the main house that houses the pool equipment and heater, sun loungers and other outdoor furniture, toys and cushions. There is also a separate WC with washbasin.

A large mature garden surrounds the property and is mainly laid to lawn and pasture with some fruit trees. The heated swimming pool was built on the site of an old moat, the remains of which has been restored and can still be seen. Beautiful Indian stone has been used to create the pool side terrace and there is also a solar powered shower. This terrace continues up to the rear door of the KITCHEN/ DINING ROOM of the main house. There is also another good sized south facing terrace that is a perfect spot for al fresco dining and views over the garden.

A fantastic opportunity to buy a comfortable family home that also happens to be a beautiful château with genuine history!
